The Inn Announces Golf Instructional Event at TPC Avenel

BETHESDA, Md. — April 12, 2024 — Families from The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will hit the links at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, a PGA Tour course , on Wednesday, April 24 for a children’s  golf clinic sponsored by Hummingbird Golf for Exceptional Children and the Maryland State Golf Association. The event will tee off at 3:30 p.m.

Hummingbird Golf has been bringing the game of golf to hospitalized children throughout the mid-Atlantic region since 2022. David Weil, the founder of Hummingbird, made his first visit to The Children’s Inn more than six months ago, and has been conducting regular lessons at The Inn ever since. He provides children  with an opportunity to learn basic skills such as putting and chipping with fun, engaging lessons that are accessible to all.

The event at Avenel will be the first of its kind, where golf professionals with experience in junior golf coaching and instruction  will provide  lessons to the children from The Inn in a world class golf  setting.  Assistant Golf Pro Derek Stenson and other certified instructors from TPC Potomac will be directing this event.   Maryland State Golf Association’s  Executive Director, Kelly Newland, PGA , has committed to the successful launch of this special adaptive golf program for children, and will also be in attendance.

TPC Potomac hosted the PGA Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship in 2022 and was the regular host for the Booz Allen Classic, formerly known as the Kemper Open, from 1987-2006.

Media interested in attending the event at TPC Potomac are encouraged to reach out to The Inn’s Communications and Media Relations Manager Sam Angell at [email protected] or 267-226-9309.
