The Children’s Inn at NIH Announces Details for 10th Annual “Evening for Hope” Gala

Stories of Hope, Discovery, and Gratitude; Honorary emcee NBC News4 Anchor Tony Perkins

BETHESDA, Md. – April 5, 2024 – The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health, a private nonprofit in support of children with rare, often life-threatening illnesses, today announced that NBC News4 Anchor Tony Perkins will emcee its 10th annual “An Evening for Hope” gala. The evening will draw hundreds of government leaders and industry supporters to the Ritz Carlton Tysons on April 27, 2024.

An Evening for Hope is The Inn’s largest annual fundraiser. As a nonprofit partner to the NIH Clinical Center, The Inn provides access to clinical research studies and treatment by removing barriers for families battling rare diseases. Since 1990, The Inn has served families from every state in the U.S. and 106 countries around the world.

“At The Children’s Inn, we do all we can to reduce the burden of illness, make childhood possible and advance medical research,” said Jennie Lucca, CEO, The Children’s Inn at NIH. “We are immensely proud of our partnership with the NIH, working closely with our clinical partners to help families access the treatment they need, and clinicians make breakthroughs that will change the future of medicine.”

Program presenters, including Dr. Monica M. Bertagnolli, Director of the National Institutes of Health, will walk attendees through the importance of The Inn and share stories of the resilient families who have felt the efforts and comfort of The Inn’s support. Amongst the families is the Koch family. Karly and her sister, Kelsey, were both diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, Dock8 Immunodeficiency Syndrome. The gala will remember the late Kelsey’s selfless, medical pioneering battle and celebrate her life. Against all odds, Karly survived her battle and, like her sister, participated in scientific breakthroughs that will continue to save lives. Notably, Karly will be an honored guest at the event, exemplifying the courage she and her family exude and the triumph medical discoveries allow.

“Annually, this gala provides an opportunity for reflection on the past and a look to the boundless possibilities of the future. The work of The Children’s Inn is made possible by every attendee at the event: our partners and the donors who fund the mission. The gala also serves as a time to acknowledge the strength of the brave residents we make our mission to support,” said Todd Pantezzi, Gala Chairman, Children’s Inn Trustee, and Chief Strategy Officer for Customer Value Partners. “It is through their bravery that scientific discoveries are made and life-changing clinical research studies at the National Institutes of Health’s Clinical Center are attainable.”

At this year’s event, guests can expect a beautiful evening with a cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, and both silent and live auctions.
