Inn Families Enjoy an All-Expense-Paid Getaway to National Harbor

Last weekend, nine Inn families were given the exciting opportunity to go on a weekend trip to The National Harbor. Shirley’s Kids, a respite program of The Children’s Cancer Foundation, sponsored an action-packed trip for Inn families–helping them to forget about the everyday burden of their children’s illnesses.

Day 1: Families started at The Inn where they helped themselves to our popular grab-and-go breakfast cart, picked up lunch at the Bethesda Giant Food, then headed to Washington National’s Park, where they got a personal tour of the park. After the tour, they checked-in at the Gaylord National Hotel and enjoyed free time to play in the pool and explore the National Harbor. In the evening, families had dinner at the Cadillac Ranch Restaurant, and had time to explore the area.

Day 2: Families embraced their inner pirate when they joined the Boomerang Pirate Ship crew in Washington, DC. After the boat cruise, they made their way to Pinstripes for bowling and lunch, then headed back to The Children’s Inn at NIH.

This second annual respite weekend included unique adventures and quality family time together, providing a much-needed fun and relaxing getaway for all family members. We are so thankful for our partnership with the The Children’s Cancer Foundation, which has allowed us to fulfill our mission of supporting families with seriously ill children undergoing treatment at the National Institutes of Health.
