Washington Toyota Dealers Deliver $50,000 to The Children’s Inn

BETHESDA, Maryland (September 10, 2014) – Washington Area Toyota executives at Nationals Park delivered a check for more than $50,000 from Toyota’s K’s for Kids program to The Children’s Inn at NIH before the Nats game on Tuesday, September 9th. Kathy Russell, The Inn’s Chief Executive Officer, and Inn board members accepted the check on the field in front of more than 35,000 fans. The Children’s Inn at NIH is a nonprofit “Place Like Home” where families stay together while their children participate in groundbreaking medical research at the NIH, the world’s premier biomedical research center.

The “K’s for Kids” program benefits seriously ill children in treatment at the National Institutes of Health. Each time a Washington Nationals pitcher threw a strikeout this past season, Washington Area Toyota Dealers donated $37 to The Children’s Inn at NIH–the $37 donation highlights Nats’ star pitcher Stephen Strasburg, number 37.

“The K’s for Kids program is the perfect opportunity to give back. Toyota strives to be an active, positive influence in the D.C. community and we were very delighted to continueour relationship with The Children’s Inn at NIH this season,” said Mark Shwetz of the Washington Area Toyota Dealers.

The 2014 Nationals season has included 1151 strikeouts so far this season and at this pace, the Toyota’s K’s for Kids program will deliver more than $50,000 to The Children’s Inn. In addition, each month during the season, the Washington Area Toyota Dealers provide dozens of families with the opportunity to attend ballgames, watch batting practice and catch Nats’ excitement. All proceeds for K’s for Kids support The Inn’s mission.

“This was the third year of this winning program for The Inn and we are very grateful to the Washington Area Toyota Dealers,” said Kathy L. Russell, The Inn’s CEO. “These games also provide a wonderful break for our families and help alleviate the some of the stress of medical appointments and treatments,” Russell added.
