In-Kind Gifts

As a private, nonprofit organization, The Children’s Inn at NIH is responsible for raising the funds to maintain this “Place Like Home” at no cost to families whose children are undergoing treatment at The National Institutes of Health. As we strive to be a home for families coming from across the country and around the world, to participate in pediatric research studies, we accept a variety of in-kind (non-financial) donations, helping us to better serve families in need.

Our Wish List details the ongoing and most current needs of The Inn. You can use this information to make in-kind donations, organize a special drive, or donate mailbox gifts to benefit and lift the spirits of our families. Your charitable, tax-deductible donation will help The Children’s Inn continue to provide much needed services to seriously ill children and their families. Please keep in mind, due to the often fragile health conditions of our residents, we can not accept used items or stuffed animals. All items must be new in the original packaging.

Top 5 Pantry Items Needed

For the children who are treated at the NIH, quality of life is very important. Often families arrive late at night after our grocery run and do not have food for dinner or breakfast. Others may not have sufficient funds to purchase food. Our Help Yourself Pantries provide food, and comfort for Inn families 365 days a year. We currently need:

  1. Fruit cups
  2. Cereal in single-serve boxes
  3. Cooking essentials – spices, olive oil, non-stick cooking spray, etc.
  4. Condiments – mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, honey, syrup, agave, BBQ sauce
  5. Long grain white rice, regular brown rice

Please be sure to check the expiration date on food you donate, as this helps us in stocking the shelves with fresh, and safe-to-consume food for families. Also, families prefer small serving sizes and individually packaged items. See our Complete Wish List.
