Videos and articles about children and young people with cancer and rare diseases that can lead to cancer who stay at The Children’s Inn while participating in clinical trials at NIH that are their best hope:

  • Faith, 17, has a rare, slow-growing cancer called alveolar soft tissue sarcoma
  • Terran, 19, has mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer that occurs in the thin layer of tissue that covers internal organs
  • Paige, 8, has neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic tumor predisposition syndrome. While Paige’s tumors are not cancerous, they can turn malignant.
  • Xavier, 12, also has neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic tumor predisposition syndrome. While his tumors are not cancerous, they can turn malignant.
  • Kavya, 19, received a curative bone marrow transplant for a fatal genetic immune deficiency called Dock8, which unless treated through a transplant, leads to various infections and diseases, including cancer.

Campaign instructions, courtesy of Sixdegrees.Org:

  1. Get caked
    • The action is the best part. Whether it’s a video or a picture, make sure there is proof that you got caked. You can have a friend or loved one cake you. All that matters is that you have fun!
  2. Use the official hashtag #CakeItLikeAKid
    • #CakeItLikeAKid is the official hashtag but feel free to add any others that also resonate, such as #PediatricCancerAwarenessMonth or #CancerIsNoCakeWalk.
  3. Tag 6 people
    • In your written post make sure you tag 6 friends, colleagues, family members, etc. You can also say thank you to whoever challenged you. It’s also a great idea to encourage all of your followers to join the challenge as well!
  4. Add the donation link: sixdegrees.org/cakeitlikeakid
    • We love awareness but the end goal is to help Sixdegrees.org raise money for The Children’s Inn and Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic through our partnership. Include the donation link in the post and ask people to donate: sixdegrees.org/cakeitlikeakid
  5. Share the post
    • You can share this post anytime during the month of September which is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month.
